If you recall It took me 2 weeks to figure out what was wrong with my shield job, luckily I had my acoustic, but most of my time was spent trying to figure out what was wrong. I used this page to determine what was screwy of course it was something simple(always is!).
I'm still trying to shield my strat. I went from no sound at all to nothing but buzz and hum at different degrees. When I touch the screws for the 5 way it hums real loud. The two tone pots have a ground wire to the volume, no terminals bent back to the shell. The volume is bent back and all grounds meet there. I screwed a piece of brass to the inside of the cavity and have a wire running from there to the volume as well. Have I created an ground loop? I have tried all different combinations and I put electrical tape on the pickguard underneath the pots so they aren't touching the shield because I thought I was making a loop between the shield and the volume pot.

Is idea is to drain the hum from the jack, through the shield, and out to the ground?. I have followed the "Shielding the beast" directions and I can't seem to get it right. People say this is a necessary mod if you have a strat and all I hear is how simple it is.

I don't give up easy but I'm running out of ideas and I would really like to play my strat someday.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Mark
