Recording setup is real simple, just a mic & mic stand I got from Musicians Friend (Mic says Audio Spectrum AS-420 on it - cheap, but better than the junky Logitech boom mic I had before), straight into a Sound Blaster Live sound card. Recorded with Audacity. I use Ardour sometimes too, it's nice since it's got built in click track, and good gain / level adjustment stuff, beyond just the "normalize this whole track thing". But I was just messing around, so I didn't bother w/ Ardour.

This is the first and only amp that I've built so far (unless you count the tiny little 9V powered op-amp thing I did way back when). I built a couple pedals (TS808 clone and BluesBreaker clone) first to sort of get my soldering skills going again. I thought about the amp long and hard before doing it. All the webpages I could find about building amps had warnings in big red letters like "TUBE AMPS HAVE LETHAL VOLTAGES, DON'T STICK YOUR HANDS IN THERE UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING". Kinda scared me off. ;) Eventually I decided that I probably knew enough to do it safely, and went ahead and ordered the parts. I work w/ a couple people that probably would have been able to help me make it work, if I got totally stuck, but it didn't end up being that hard a build (IMO). So yeah, I do a lot of tinkering. One thing that I like about guitar is it gives me something to tinker with that's NOT a computer. Of course I like playing guitar too, but tinkering is definitely fun....

@Iza - you might want to check on that gift card. Media Play was owned by a bigger company and Media Play's sister stores are still open. I believe Suncoast and FYE are part of the same chain, so they might honor it. Of course Suncoast and FYE aren't as cool as Media Play was....

@Iza - Media Plays are all gone now! I used to like them too, at least for buying CDs and DVDs and stuff. A lot of people here picked up decent deals on guitar stuff when they were closing out, but by the time I got around to poking through the guitars, all the ones that were left had been severely abused. Huge chunks taken out of the bodies, necks crooked from being slung about, knobs and switches ripped off, etc... So I got the wah instead.

@duff - I'm in sorta upstate NY - Poughkeepsie. Pretty much the northernmost suburb of NYC. ie it's the last stop on Metro North. People actually commute down to the city from here, it's pretty crazy if you ask me. Where you at?
