(I would like some feedback on how to make this better, if possible)

Hi. I was writing this and I thought it would make a suitable bassline, but then I sent it to some of my other guitarist friends and they were talking about how it has no groove and whatnot. So I guess my question is, how do I settle into a groove with a bassline? I may not end up using this as a bassline anyway, because I kind of wrote it and played it on guitar. My bass is about 60 miles away right now  This isn't a finished version by any means, this is just where I got to for today and thought I could use some feedback.

I think I have a hard time figuring out interesting rhythms, and knowing when not to play. Is there anything I can do to help this? Just learn a bunch of songs?

The mp3 I recorded is it http://gforti.homestead.com/files/bassx.mp3 .

Any other thoughts? I would want to be adding other stuff on top of this (for example probably electric guitar, possibly a different bassline if I didn't use this as a bassline, or if I did then nylon string guitar and maybe electric guitar). But all that together might sound really busy. I guess I'm just struggling with the whole songwriting process and stuff.

Thanks for any advice/comments.

PS. I know...I should probably have played this with a metronome, hehe.
