Double click on it to open the Play Control window. Then "Options", "Properties", "Recording".<br> If the speaker isn't visible, go to "Start", "Settings", "Control Panel", "Sounds &amp; Audio Devices", "Audio" and, under "Sound recording", "Volume".<br><br>You'll now have a window, showing you all the input devices, including microphone. If there is a tick-mark in the microphone "Select" box, the mic input is active. Click on the line-in "Select" box, which will de-activate the mic.<br><br>Now, try again.  :)]]></content:encoded>

Perhaps you activated the mic.<br><br>I think Greybeard says that probably you activated the mic in your laptop and you have a problem of feedback.<br><br>Are you using Windows? There is a dialog in the Control Panel where do you can see what input is selected.<br><br>Sometimes, the program that you are using for recording has an access to that configuration as well. Are you using Audacity perhaps?<br><br>Did you install any software these days? Sometimes the installers change the system configuration.]]></content:encoded>

                        <content:encoded><![CDATA[before my laptop takes a well deserved fall down a flight of stairs  I wonder if somebody here can save its life.<br>i recorded something for the online jams forum last week and although my playing was dodgy, the sound quality was okay.<br><br>however, since then and previously to then, i have not been able to record anything without a huge HISS which drives me NUTS!!<br><br>i plug straight into the mc input or line input through a pod 2.0. - why can i not get rid of the VERY LOUD DRIVING ME MAD HISS!!!!<br>is there a way to plug into the usb to record? would that help the hiss??<br>please, there is a laptop in lancashire which needs your help, it has seconds left to live!]]></content:encoded>
