This might be relevant for you because laptops generally have pretty shoddy soundcards, so with a USB interface you can bypass the internal soundcard altogether. They are also pretty small and portable and dont require any power sockets or extra cable as it runs itself and any mic phantom power you might need via the USB power in the laptop.

Anyway, just a thought. If you already have a mixer you were thinking of using then yes, plugged into the back of the soundcard it will do the job also.
