I think lower frequencies may have more of a tendency to propagate through the floor, and since the floor surfaces are different, you get very different characteristics. If you isolate it from the floor a little, you may have to play the amp louder, but you may be more consistent.

hark,

A little more info, are you saying that in the same room with everything the same in terms of room configuration and amp settings things change? Or are you saying when you saying that you dial in a sound for a tin room and then in a hall it's different? If you are talking about the later, then that's what I'm talking about, every room, every space is going to have different acoustic dynamics, which includes how/where you position your amps etc.

If you use the same room all the time you need to just work out what positions and settings work well. Now the room my have horrible acoustics to begin with and no matter what you do in terms amp positoning/guitar settings it may never sound right. in those cases you may need to do somethink about the room acoustics themselves, like sound deading the walls/ceiling etc.

I jam with a bunch of guys in a basemant and we even go through the same thing there, depending on how we position the PA and where the drummer and amps and everything is set up the acoustics change.
