does it have both preamp tubes and power amp tubes ?

if so, i think the preamp tubes will control the 'cranked' quality of (over)drive ... the long sweet sustain of high gain, or the 'crunch' that you can get from diggin in to some chords .. if you want a solid hard rock sound, youre gonna have to drive the channel volumes ....for cleans, go easy on the channel gain and use the master to get the desired volume

with the power tubes opened up all the way (WEAR EARLPLUGS!) you will get that warm 'spongy' sound ... very breathy and DEFINITELY moving some air .. you'll develop a good feel for your right hand's effect on your sound this way too because the amp will respond to your picking attack more immediately

there are products that you can use that go after the power amp but before the speakers that allow you to turn the master volume up without going deaf (i think a popular one is called the HOTPLATE by THD) ... it gets the power tubes nice and warmed up but cuts the volume without losing 'that' tone

hope this helps

cheers,
tone

What drives the tubes harder, higher channel volume and lower master volume or the other way around? Also, I'm only using it in the home right now so I keep the volume down. Does running it at a lower volume have any effect on which setting to use to drive the tubes?
