There are times when I'll use it more as an EQ, but generally I use my amp, or powered mixer or DI to tweak.

It wasn't noisey, but I've heard that elsewhere. I think too long of an effects-chain could have something to do with that noise. A lot of times, it seems, folks try to use an EQ to compensate for a too-long Effects-chain.
