I have a vox ad50vt. And i was wondering, how loud, is too loud. I don't think i have ever had both volumes over half. I always have the volume dial at half, and have never turned the master over half either. and i usually have the attenuator on full.

HAHAHA... I think your ears will blow before your speaker blows.
Crank that muther up once in a while.. if for nothing else to annoy the hell out of your neighbors.

Oh yeah, once in awhile you have to crank an amp. This is when an amp, especially a tube amp sounds best. Really difficult to do, neighbors complain, you can rarely crank an amp at a club nowadays. Outdoor gigs are great, you can turn that mother up. :D
As others said, probably hurt your ears before the amp, but it is possible to blow the amp or speakers playing it full out. Once in awhile is OK though.

I have had mine running at about 2/3 full power and in a 14ft by 12ft room - that's very loud! I actually have issues with resonance with things in the room before the sound gets to that level though, so I can't enjoy it too much. Plus it makes the light fittings drop out of the kitchen ceiling below my floor.

I don't think I have ever turned my amps up all the way before, why am I denying myself this pleasure? Am I punishing myself? If so what could I have possibly done to deserve this? Do I secretly think it's immoral to fart the alphabet?

If you can do that last, I'll be impressed, no matter how loud it is.

Yeah, I know about Le Petomane. He has had a few imitators in recent times, but none that could hold a candle to him. (I wouldn't try that, myself.)

I have read that at his performances they would have nurses standing by as people would sometimes pass out from laughing. He truly was the Elvis of flatulence.

Attenuator? That amp has a solid state "neutral power amp" of some kind that's controlled by the power knob in the back. Is that what you mean by attenuator? Or are you using an external attenuator?
There should be no need (and no reason) to use an external attenuator. You can use the knob in the back for that purpose. You can reduce the power output by using that knob, and crank the master volume to full, as that seems to affect the "tube" stage of this amp, and hence the tone. The "volume" knob also seems fairly neutral, the only thing I've found it useful for is to balance the volume of two presets (a suggestion from Arjen). I have an AD30VT, but I think all the controls are pretty much the same..

I have always just called it the attenuator, sorry for my terminology.

We'll let it go this time, but don't let it happen too often.
