But with solid states you never want to run a cab with lower impedence than the amp. So you wouldn't want to hook up a 4 ohm cab to an amp that operates at 8 ohms. On most solid state amps you will see the word "minimum". Never go less than the minimum with a solid state amp.

Tubes amps can usually run a speaker cab rated a little lower or higher than the amp. The reason I'm asking is because I aquired a Fender HM 412A cab (works at 8 ohms parallel or 16 stereo), and I'm considering hooking it up.
