It has probably the best Clean channel in it's price range, you would have to pay double or more to do better. Pedals sound great through this amp.

I know you didn't ask for this, but you probably realize that the HRD gets very LOUD very quick. This is a common complaint with HRD owners, it can be a little difficult to play at home because it goes from almost no volume at 1 to extremely loud at 1-1/2. If you find this to be the case, try plugging your guitar into the 2nd instrument input, the volume will be far more controllable.

Here is a great site devoted to the HRD, you can learn lots about your new amp.

Unofficial Hot Rod Deluxe Owner's Guide

Congrats again.

Actually, the amp may have been perfectly fine. I bought my Hot Rod Deluxe about 5 years ago, it is still going strong and has been my main gig amp for years now. But when I originally brought it home it made a few snaps, crackles, and pops. Brand new speakers will often make a few strange noises at first. I have bought quite a few new speakers and some have made some really odd noises when I first fired them up. But usually after a few hours the speaker will start to sound fine, and over a few weeks really start to sound great.

I think my HRD made noise for about a week, but after that it performed perfectly. To this day it has been a very dependable amp, the only problems I've ever had is that the jewel light has burned out twice. I found replacements at an auto parts store for about $1 each.

Once at a wedding gig we played in a large room right next to the Inn's kitchen. This was a large Inn and they had big heavy duty equipment in the kitchen. At this gig my HRD made a loud pop and hum. It did this several times and I thought something was wrong with the amp. After about half an hour it quit making these strange noises and has never done so again. I think I was experiencing power surges from the heavy motors kicking on and off in the kitchen. Since then I bought a power conditioner to protect all my gear.

So, perhaps your amp was defective, but don't be surprised if the replacement makes a few noises the first few days. Amps are like anything else, they have a short break-in period.
