Gotta respect the stored NRG in the caps. Could kill you. I'd be the first to admit I would be fishing blindly trying to fix a problem. You have to know what is normal before you can diagnose what is abnormal. Just like fixing people. I am very good at diagnosing and repairing electric guitars, but know very little about amps. You have to accept your limitations. Doesn't mean you cant learn though. You just have to be safe and do it correctly. As you said, there is dues to be paid.

I went to my local Carvin and they gave me a number for a place that will fix my amp. I'm just going to take it in now and see what's going on with it. I think I'm going to check those sites out as well. Amp building and electronics sounds like fun. I'm sure it takes a long time to know what your doing, but I'm young! Might as well get to work on something else that could help me out later.

I'm not arguing with that. But if you don't know the basics, you're not going to be able to get your amp fixed by yourself. You've got a lot of potential for screwing it up further. I love working on stuff like this myself. But I've spent a LOT of time studying electronics textbooks and tinkering with equipment. I've also learned from experience that trying to help people diagnose things over the Net without being able to lay hands on it often results in great dissatisfaction and frustration on both sides. Fixing amps is like playing guitar. You've got to pay your dues by putting in the effort to learn how it's done (which forum conversations aren't really sufficient for) and acquiring the proper gear. Start with amp building sites if you're really interested in learning how. A good place to go (and follow links from) is: http://ax84.com/ And definitely go to http://geofex.com/ and click on the Tube Amp Pages link. The Tube Amp Debugging page will make every question that can be asked about a dysfunctional tube amp unnecessary to ask about here. Whether you can sort out the differential diagnosis suggested by that page and fix it is another question, and goes back to my first admonition, that you need to learn how it's done.

If so, playing it or even turning it on with the speaker unplugged (because of random popping that can occur when you're not playing the guitar, as with plugging in a cable or flipping the pickup selector, or a crackle from an electrolytic capacitor leaking) can lead to shorting of the output transformer and damage to the output tubes or their sockets. I liked it a lot (especially for the price) =]
One day I turn it on to let it warm up before I play and I start smelling a fire type smell, I can't figure it out then I realize the amp!
I go and indeed it was the amp. For whatever reason, someone decided to pull the cable that connects the head from the cab out...
So it won't make any more sound. I checked the fuse and it was fried. I e-mailed Krank to get the fuse rating then went to Radioshack to pick a few up. After putting it in I was excited to turn it on. As soon as I flicked it on I hear a pop! The fuse is once again fried. The other one is fine but this one doesn't even stay for a second. I try the second one, nothing. I can't figure it out. Can anyone give me any information on this?
Thanks in advance
-Richard
