just two more things i would like to metion

1) not worrying about budget anymore
2) mostly looking for a used cabinet or cabinet-head package

also, i just tried out a B-52 half stack at guitar center. i loved the sound, but felt like it was lacking on the low end. any insight?

Well for players who want really heavy tones, I always recommend Randall, because Randall prides themselves and specializes in high gain amps for Metal and other type tones. Lots of Metal bands go with Randall today.

Under $300 this looks like a pretty good deal:
