Hey Everybody, I have an Ibanez Soundtank Tubescreamer, which i like alot but I noticed that there seems to be a problem with the footswitch itself. That's the TS-5, right?
I thought I had seen something about 'Screamer switches in general on Analog Man's site, so I went and looked. He says the Soundtanks "are pretty cheezy but sound quite decent." The previous paragraph mentions the switches on the TS-9, and cleaning or repairing them.
The problem is that when I press down to use the effect sometimes the light goes on and the effect is engaged and there is no problem, however other times the light flickers on and off and other times it doesn't go on at all. Usually when one of those problems happens all I have to do is keep trying to engage the effect and it will eventually turn on. I figure that it's not a huge problem, maybe i just need a new button but I could be wrong and if someone could give me some opinions on it, I would really appreciate it.I haven't seen anything comparing the TS-5 and TS-9 switches, but an intermittent problem like yours has could just mean it wants cleaning. It's also possible, if it's terminally flakey, that Analog Man could replace the switch while modifying it. See his TubeScreamer page for more info and a link to his FAQ page, which explains how to clean a TS-9 or -10 switch. http://www.analogman.com/ts9.htm

I have a TS-7 (Tone-Lok) that Analog Man modified, plus a TS-9 that may make the journey to CT some day. Good stuff. 8)
