That's a pretty good estimation.

With the volume/master volume, that's the 70s-late 70s, maybe even early 80s distortion concept, so it's definitely newer than the 50s. And that was way before digital reverbs, so yah, 1980s model? The other Yamahas of that time I remember having tolex and that hard mesh type grill cloth with the stripes. That natural wood cabinet though...that's a twist. Looks great though - like they were trying to go after that Mesa Boogie MkII combo look, especially with that grill that's on there.

You might contact http://www.buffalobrosguitars.com/

or http://www.gruhn.com/

or even http://www.vintageamps.com/va/index.html

and show them the pics.

I did remove the back cover, and found that it's a 4 ohm 10w speaker, so I'm guessing that it's a 5 watt amp (don't ask how I came to that conclusion :) ). It also has high and low inputs. I was just trying to nail down the year model. The guy who actually owns the one that I have right this second got it in about 80 or 81. He bought it from someone who had it for several years, but doesn't know if that guy bought it new or not.

I don't remember Yamaha offering natural finished combos, but I don't know much about those amps anyhow so I could be wrong. Or someone could've taken off the Tolex and varnished it or something.

If it's from the era I'm thinking of (I used to visit a local Yamaha dealer once in awhile - especially to check out the guitars), I'm thinking it's solid state, 5-6 inch speaker, maybe 15-20 watts. Can't really tell from the pics, but it might have a gain/drive knob - which would definitely put it in the 70s.

Cool little amp. :)
