The bassist in a local band around here plays a fretless, upright electric bass - possibly the funkiest electric instrument I've ever seen (barring theramins of course, nothing trumps an instrument you play without touching! :)).

Piccies here. C&S, you should see a band called Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. They make some of the weirdest intruments I've seen!!

When I was at one of their shows, they had this hybrid violin type thing, it was the neck and bridge of a violin but no body and there was this type of grammaphone horn on it, so when it was played it sounded like it was coming from an old fashioned grammaphone. It was pretty neat.

There was also a home made bass unlike any other, it was a 9ft plank with strings (what stings I don't know, maybe piano???), anyway it was horizontal on a keyboard stand and played with drum sticks.

I've not seen an electric fretless bass, have you got any pictures? Strangly enough I have seen an acoustic fretless bass though.
