As for the Martin DX1, no it was not in fact the Christmas gift from the wife. After a couple of months of playing the Walmart special (Silvertone...which did not sound too bad) and finding that I was really putting some effort into learning the instrument I traded it in for the Martin DX1. Well actually I traded it in for a Washburn electro acoustic but found the sound to be a bit soft so I exchanged it for the Martin.

The wife was very supportive in getting a guitar that I would like to keep for a number of years instead of just buying something that I may want to trade up again in a year of so.

As for myself learning the guitar I am in fact taking lessons and trying to absorb all of the great info on the web. I am not wanting to learn lead but rather want to lead but want to become good at picking out the turn of a song a figuring out how to play it. Basically just wanting to play for the kids out in the backyard and for myself as a form of relaxation.

I am looking forward to many discussions on this board.
