Ethan, thanks for clarifying how you did it before I made another smart alec remark about it.
I HATE those tightly sealed blister packs! I know they've got an awful problem with shoplifters, but they've just about made it impossible for the legitimate buyers to get their products out!
Back when I was an avid cyclist, I recall several cycling events hosting "Huffy tosses," where people would pay some small fee for a chance to see who could toss a cheap Huffy bike the farthest. I never went in for that sort of thing myself. I figure bikes and guitars are a lot alike; some are better than others for sure, but they've all got something to be said for them, and somebody'd be mighty glad to get that cheap one that somebody else is throwing off on for not being up to his high standards.
Hope you have a speedy recovery!
Thanks everybody. Ric, I didn't know you ever were a cyclist. Let me guess-road guy, right? I'm a mountain biker myself. I actually rode those Huffys for years, until I cracked a frame in one
Thanks sincerely for the well wishes, everybody.
Oh, I also posted this on another forum (Won't say which) and the first thing everybody did was ask for pictures of the cut

Please be careful there around sharp implements young man! Darn blister packs. Knives even come in them. I could use this knife to open this package if I could only open this package and get the knife!

Yeah, I was a road rider. I got into recumbent riding the last few years before a motorcycle crash put me out of the two-wheel stuff. Here's me as I used to look riding to work on it (but without the X-Men lunchbox I usually had on the luggage rack):

Thanks Ric. That's what I said when I picked it up Friday. Too bad I can't ride it at the moment
Thanks everyone

You will be playing and riding very soon! I'm sure! :D
Wishing you a speedy recovery Ethan.

I'll echo Ken's remarks - best of luck tomorrow. I'm curious as to why they made you wait two days, though. Last year when I had my accident it was on a Saturday evening...I got to hospital about 11pm, was kept in overnight, and operated on about 10AM Sunday. I was on the table for a while....think there were about 282 stitches if I remember correctly, quite a few of which were micro-sutures to hold the tendon together - it was completely severed. I was asked if I wanted a local or general anaesthetic - so I asked what the difference was. I was told with a general anaesthetic, I'd be kept in overnight - with a local, I could go home the same day. Having had experience of Hospital food, I plumped for the local....! After that, I was straight down to have a plaster put on to immobilise the hand - it was actually kind of semi-plaster, rigid over the knuckles, but with some give - although I couldn't bend my wrist, either.
I think it was between 3 and 4 weeks when the plaster came off - then I was supposed to have a dynamic splint made, which never happened. I think I started trying to play again virtually straight away, but my middle finger refused to co-operate. I learned a lot about slide guitar in the next few weeks, especially about playing slide in standard tuning - my hand was too painful to keep re-tuning. Yes, it DID hurt - a hell of a lot at times. But I was determined I was going to play again. My hand still aches if I play a lot of barre chords - like I've said elsewhere, I've developed a method using my thumb to cover the bottom two strings which works for me.
When you start playing again, it'll be like starting from scratch almost - no muscle memory! Hopefully, it won't take you as long as it took me to get back to playing again, and rest assured that all of us here at Guitarnoise are pulling for you. I got a huge amount of encouragement from the people here - hey, I couldn't let those good folks down now could I!
I'm not a religious man, or I'd offer a prayer up for you - but may your God smile on you tomorrow. All the best Ethan!!! There's a gorgeous white guitar in your avatar that's waiting to rock....!

Thanks so much for the encouragement Vic. I'm waiting two days because the procedure needs a plastic surgeon and the nearest one is 4 hours away. I go in early tomorrow, so I'll try to post before I leave. No guarantees though. I should even be done physio in 4-6 weeks :D
Oh, yeah, guess what I've been told by my orthopeadic surgeon neighbour who also plays guitar? My physio will likely include running scales a couple times a day :P
Also, Vic, I'm not very religious myself, but thanks for the thought.
Thanks sincerely to everybody here, you guys are like a second family to me 8)
