I've been a big Zappa fan since I was 14 :D Lots of great Zappa covers out there :D Unfortunately I have heard that his wife Gail is trying to prevent "just anyone" from performing his music. I have a big problem with that :evil:

I am very jealous. I had to drive 8 hours to see Dream Theater 2 years ago. I got to see ZPZ at Bonnaroo last year and they put on a great show. My son and I both had to stand in the hot sun cause we couldn't get under the tent, but we wouldn't move cause they were so good.

Hey Blueline, what do you think of DT's latest? (You might notice where my avatar comes from ... ) I'm torn; seems there's a few good tracks but overall it's not inspiring. Then again, I didn't care much for Octavarium at first, but now it's one of my favorites. But they really gotta stop Portnoy from doing the demon-voice growls next time. :lol:

Anyway, enjoy the show! I saw Petrucci on the last G3 and he was amazing, as they all were. ZPZ ought to be great too! 8)

Vic I totaly understand Vic. It's not for everyone. I have been going to Zappa concerts since the mid 70s. It's in my blood at this point. I have to say, I really enjoy his music live. There's just something about it. The entire band has such a good time playing and performing. It's a great thing to see/hear. Dweezil is a very accomplished guitarist and does great justice to his dad's music. He also brings his own take on the songs which is really cool.

As for Dream Theater, IMHO, they are most likely the best heavy prog band on earth. Like I said, this is going to be a great show. I can't wait. I certainly will report back. It's my duty as a GNer!!! 8)

That sounds like an awesome gig Blueline! I have a recording on Zappa Plays Zappa on my V+ box which I've been checking out a lot. V tight band, and Dweezil is a strong guitar player with great crowd skills. Please report on it, I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time!

Dream Theater/Zappa Plays Zappa

Just got my tix for the upcoming show in August. I am SOOOOoooooo excited for this concert. I had a choice of 1st row (far, far left of the stage) or 20th row (center). I took the 20th row. I know not everyone is into Zappa's music, but I have been a fan since I can remember. His son does a great job of performing and often brings guitar legends like Steve Vai along to play a few tunes. (Vai used to play with Frank many moons ago- where he got his start)

Dream Theater is headlining. For me, I could not think of a better match up. The best part is that the show is in a small venue 1 hour away from my town.

Life is good people. 8)
