Very cool.

And by the way, playing with David and Greg and Jeff and Tony and all of the others at Riverside Jam is enough to intimidate anyone. However, musicians have a very high tolerance for talent at all levels - unless money is on the line 8). No need for trepidation, but jaw-drop awe is OK.

Laz

Surfers brag far more about their horrible wipeouts than their good rides. :D

And playing in a band is the same. It is a pain in the you know what. But really, I think that is what is so exciting about it. And people would rather hear horror stories than "everything went perfect". It's just human nature.

And Chris, it is the same for us. We got together one time. There was no reason for you to feel intimidated or put yourself down as a poor player (which you are not). Jamming is not about getting together so everyone can judge who is the best or worst. No, it's about getting together and just having fun. Who cares about mistakes? Not me, and I make PLENTY.

So, we've got to fix this. Next time you guys get together again, give me a call. We are gonna jam again and you are gonna have fun. :D

But even if we do mess up, we can write about it here for everyone to enjoy.

It's like that old saying that complaining about your problems is useless.... Half the people don't care, and the other half are glad.

Chris, just keep playing with others, it is the very best way to improve quickly.

Knock 'em dead Dennis. And make sure to write us a good gig report.

It's funny I read the posts about your first Guitarnoise jam and all you did was tune up and didn't play it was kinda of the same way when I played with Wes over one of the guys I work with house. I was a little intimidated to say the least and maybe muddled through a couple songs way to embarrassed to have him hear me play, and Wes is one of the nicest guys you'll meet but it was still to intimidating.

Anyway I give you a lot of credit for putting yourself out there and doing it.
Thanks Chris! You mentioned something about progressing. I bet if you and I were in a room playing together people would say you are a better guitar player. Over my 4 years I've played with lots of people and can only think of 2 players who were "worse" (not the right word but you know what I mean). So that could mean one of two things. One: I've been playinjg with people who are more experienced with their instruments. Two: I'm not progressing as fast as others, therefore, everyone is better.

Nevertheless, the gig is the 20th so a week from tomorrow. Nervous? Uh, yea. I've had two practices with the band and we're gonna hit the stage at 9:30, do our three sets and be done by 1am. I guess this band didn't email and respond regularly but, since last Monday, it's been a flurry of emails. Alex said they're excited to have someone fill out the sound. And this is a first for me: as of last night we have a set list and (they said) we're going to STICK to it! If that happens I'll be totally shocked. That's never happened.

Anyway, of the 36 songs we're playing I'm planning on playing 24. Four of the songs I played with the other band and the other twenty I've been tyring to learn each night. It's killin' me to have to learn that many songs in such a short time. Glad I limited it or I'd be up all night. One night I was up until 2am. That wasn't good.

Now I burned all the songs I'm playing to a CD and will run through thel 24 songs each night for 5 nights. I have band practice with the other band tonight so I'll get home at midnight. Not a good time to run through all the songs. I think I'll skip band practice next Friday because it's the night before the gig and I should run through Late Calling songs. We'll see. I still think it's funny I've only played with them twice. On the "mellow" tunes I don't even know if the other guitar player's gonna pump them up or play them like the cd.

Ah, one last note. There's a song called I'm Only Happy When It Rains by Garbage. I liked how the songs sounded on CD but, when I downloaded the chords, I thought, "Man, you gotta be kiddin' me!" I believe they detune their guitar by a half step but I never do that. I hate playing songs when half of the chords are flat or sharp. Anyway, most of the song is G#m, F#, E, C#, E, F#. In the break they play C#, G# (weird, major and minor in the same song), A, B. So my fretting hand is now getting used to this craziness. Seems these guys stick to the key of the CD no matter what. That could be good and bad for me, LOL.

Yea, it's an interesting mix of songs. They are all over the place with heavy rockers to mellow stuff. I tried Redneck Woman two nights ago and I sucked. I don't play country music unless I have to. Last night I tried Dance Dance Dance and that was decent (for what I consider a half country-like song). I also tried Volcano Girls because it's a raunchy song but the chords/tab I got off the Internet is either wrong or I'm not doin' it right. :x

I'd ask the other guitar player but he just plays and doesn't know what he's playing so I can't ask him. I might ask one of the bass players how that songs goes but they may be doing something different than the guitar. One good thing, the show is definitely on May 20th so that gives me more time to prepare. :)
