the ukulele.
when I play for myself, I play any and every song the way I feel at the moment. when I play in the Cheezland UkeBand we all stick to the rhythm style for the particular song. since their are forty or more of us in the same room it is that rhythm pattern comes across, but I know a bunch of the players, myself, included are jamming on the rhythm. sometimes I play only fills like I would on a guitar. no one seems to care; I've gotten no stern looks.
the steel guitar. I use a chrome metal bullet. 5/8" diameter by Dunlop. 8 ounces I think. it has a nice heft. it sounds great on all my slide guitars ( lap steels and a National Resophonic squareneck ). one of the lap steels is tuned C6. I bet that is what you heard as Hawaiian. it does to me. Hank Williams too. I logged on because I've got a uke question. Kind of a personal preference thing. Two of them actually. For your Uke playing, do you prefer to stay somewhat close to the original rhythm of a song, or do you add the traditional sort of uke rhythm to a song. For example, I gave the stones Classic "You Can't Always Get What You Want" a spin on the uke and tried it both ways. The standard song rhythm was obviously more recognizable, but the uke style rhythm had merits of it's own.

The second question was the tone you get from your steel slide guitar had the island flavor to it one time. Was it in some part due to a solid slide? A "Bullet" brand, or something like that?
