How unfortunate. His jazzy blues solos in BTO's Blue Collar along with other works certainly have shown Bachman capable of exceptional playing with emotion. Too bad it didn't come through in this. Maybe he really was nervous?

I guess that's what happens when you have that much raw talent, but from the little music that I heard in the film I can tell you two things.

1. Randy Bachman plays well technically but his playing lacks the "feeling" that great jazz players (or blues players, or any other kind of great players) have

2. Randy's vocals are just plain bad.

I have the entire 60 minutes on video so if anyone wants it I'll be glad to make a copy for you, just contact me.

Sorry about the late notice on this, but I just found out about it five minutes ago!

CBC Newsworld presents the Idols and Icons series, featuring a one-hour documentary on Randy Bachman's JazzThing. The show is a behind the scenes look at Randy's May 2004 tour supporting his JazzThing CD release.

The tour and the CD were creative triumphs for Randy who was inspired by jazz guitarist Lenny Breau as a young teen. After his many years of success in rock and roll music, JazzThing represents Randy coming full circle to his love of jazz music. The tour took Randy to some of the smallest stages he has played in 40 years. After all these years in the business, he still gets a thrill at the applause at the end of every show, no matter how big the audience is.

On January 5, 2005, 8:00. January 6, 11:00 and 1:00am on CBC Newsworld

If you're in Canada and get a chance to see this, let us know how it was!

Peace
