First year, I just played along wih songs I knew, there weren't many, but someone'd say, "hey, it's A D and E...."

Second year, I started to watch people's hands for the chord changes.....

third year, I was anticipating chord changes....

This year.....well, who knows? Ain't nobody home, as BB King once said.....

I have to be honest, it's a while since I've been - and I was really looking forward to, well, showing off my chops. I've worked really hard this last year or so - and I was looking forward to catching up with a few old friends I haven't seen for a while. Didn't happen - I was sat at a table by myself, just strumming a few desultory chords. Although - one thing that did cheer me up a bit, one guy came and sat near me for a minute....asked me could I play any classical music. No, sez I, just rock and roll - so he asked me could I play some.

Hmm, I thought - better come up with a classic rock'n'roll song, quick. Mind went blank - so all I could come up with was "Twist And Shout." Crap version, but he seemed to like it. Then he says, "do you know...." and I'd never heard of the song he mentioned. Just then, the landlord walks in collecting glasses....so I turned to this guy and said, "I'll bet you I can strum one chord and and everyone - or nearly everyone - in this pub will know what song it is."

"Go on, then" he says - so I hit a G7sus4 chord. Loud. And Ronnie - the Landlord - started singing "It's been a hard day's night....."

And the guy I was sat with shook my hand and said "Nice one! You got me there...."

Got in the pub about 9.30. Nobody in. Unfortunately, I just missed Ray - Darth Ordinary - he left about 9.20ish. Anyway, I got a pint, sat down, tuned up - strummed through a few songs. About 10ish, maybe a little later, one of the old gang turned up - but he hadn't even brought his guitar.

I gave it till 10.30 and left.

Oh well - hopefully Stu'll be able to make it next week, and if there's two of us - well, that's enough.

Bummer.
