Isn't Bish's name on the '51 owners roll call?
He did say he'd fill the fourth slot on a team if needed.
Ah, I missed that. Bish, you wanna come out to play?
Since I got quite a bit further last night than I thought I would, I think I'll take you up on this offer, if it's still on the table. I'll add my name to the existing progress report. :)
Thanks for asking.

When my mind is free, you know a melody can move me
And when I'm feelin' blue, the guitar's comin' through to soothe me ~
Hope it's nothing too serious Margaret. If it is I wish you all the best luck.

Here is a help for all Funky guitar players
http://guitar.about.com/library/weekly/aa091701a.htm
And also this http://guitar.about.com/library/weekly/aa052001a.htm
As this Funk backing track is based on the F#Minor chord you should be able use a F#minor dorian mode scale.
"In popular music, the dorian mode works exceptionally well in minor chord "vamps" (situations where the music lingers on one minor chord for a long amount of time). If a song stuck on an Aminor chord for a long time, a guitarist might try playing an A dorian mode over that part of the song."

"Play That Funky Music"

Wild Cherry
Yeah, once I was a boogie singer…playin' in a rock & roll band
I never had no problems, yeah…burnin' down the one night stands
And everything around me, yeah…got to start to feelin' so low
And I decided quickly [yes, I did]…to disco down and check out the show
Yeah, they were dancin' and singin' and movin' to the groovin'
And just when it hit me somebody turned around and shouted
Play that funky music white boy
Play that funky music right
Play that funky music white boy
Lay down that boogie and play that funky music till you die…
(hey,hey) till you die…yeah, yeah
Well, I tried to understand this…Yeah, huh, I thought that they were out of their minds
How could I be so foolish, [How could I]…tonight's the hours, the one behind
So still I kept on fightin'…Wow, loosin' every step of the way (Yeah, what'd you do?)
I said, "I must go back there"[Got to go back]…and check to see if things still the same
Yeah, they were dancin' and singin' and movin' to the groovin'
And just when it hit me somebody turned around and shouted
Play that funky music white boy
Play that funky music right
Play that funky music white boy
Lay down that boogie and play that funky music till you die…
Till you die…(Yeah) Wow, till you die
(Come on…Play some electrified funky music)
[Hey, wait a minute] Now first it wasn't easy…changin' rock & roll and minds
And things were getting shaky…I thought I'd have to leave it behind
Oh, but now its so much better [It's so much better]…I'm funkin out in ev-er-y way
But-I'll never lose that feelin' [No I won't]…Of how I learned my lesson that day
When they were dancin' and singin' and movin' to the groovin'
And just when it hit me somebody turned around and shouted
Play that funky music white boy
Play that funky music right
Play that funky music white boy
Lay down that boogie and play that funky music till you die…
Till you die…oh, till you die
(They shouted, Play that funky music) Play that funky music
(Play that funky music) Got to keep on…Play that funky music
(Play that funky music) Pl--AY that funky music
(Play that funky music) Wanna take ya higha now…
Play that funky music white boy
Play that funky music right, yeah
Play that funky music white boy
Play that funky music right
Play that funky music white boy
Play that funky music right, yeah

That was very cool, Dog! Is that Bish playing the drums?
Just my opinion, the backing track is more of a rock-funk (metal funk?) in the style of Rage Against the Machine or RHCP. I used variations on a couple of Tom Morello riffs for my contribution. It will be quite interesting to hear how these all come together! :)
"Everybody got to elevate from the norm."
Still love that song, Dog! 8)
And I agree, Slej. I had started delving into several different funk lessons, and the BT doesn't really fit what they describe as true funk. But the field for interpretation is wide open.
Can't wait to hear some of these jams. :D

Dog,
Cool, that's the song I'm working on right now with my teacher.
"It's all about stickin it to the man!"
It's a long way to the top if you want to rock n roll!
I step out for a week and you guys are goin' crazy over here. Can't wait to hear everything, if you its done again I'll definitly join in.
yeah, not really funk -- I treated it like a rock fusion piece for my first section.
A good tune, Ken, and everytime I've heard a band cover Play that Funky Music live, they've always changed just that one word ...
