That's a fact. I never have admired any of Dylan's work as a performer. He can't play, and he can't sing. He has written some pretty good songs for other people to perform, but I wouldn't walk across the street to see him if you paid me $5 to do it and gave me earplugs.

Being a star and being a talented performer are 2 differnent things entirely. Look at the Simpson sisters, big stars but not enough talent between them to fill a thimble

Immature? Of course I'm immature Einstein, I'm 50 and in a Rock and ROll band.

I just saw his most recent tour--free, I rule--and it was terrible. It didn't sound good, and the performance was lackluster at best. I looked around the room, though, and the fans were going crazy. I didn't get it. Still don't. I think the excitement of seeing Bob Dylan made up for a lot with those folks.

The crossroads I have seen used in movies is in the middle of nowhere. Same place in "Crossroads" and "O Brother Where Art Thou". Funny, too, how Steve Vai is the devil's champ in "Crossroads", and he is the kiss of death.

I want to first say that I try to never convey a negative opinion. So, THANK YOU ALL for the opinions of Dylan.

I thought all these years it was me. I have never found him impressive. His songs seem to be well written but my opinion is he has no business playing them.

I first heard about him in Crosby, Stills, Nash and UGH. I could never figure out what was so great about him.

Sorry if this offends anyone but he's not my catch of the day, ever.

I've got tickets to see Dylan in about 4 weeks, so I'll let you know how he sounds.

P.S The Monkees had a hit with "Last Train To ClarksVILLE", not Clarksdale. 8)

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

Tele,

The Simpson's may have only enough talent to fill a thimble but they don't have any problem filling out a sweater....HA

I think the thing is with Dylan, is he's a lazy performer and plays what he wants to and the way he wants to play it. He doesn't give two hoots for his fans, who pay his wages, they go to hear his songs and expect them to sound as good if not better than the recorded versions, when in fact he's usually three parts the way through the song before you recognize it.
I was told by a friend who went to see him a couple of years ago that he came on stage stoned out of his tree walked over to the organ looked out at the crowd, then to the band, then proceeded to move the organ to face the band and treated the whole gig as a jam session.

Guess he must just love being boo'd

But you cant get past the fact that he is Bob Dylan a legend in his own lifetime.

Thats some lable to have to live up to.

Be excellent to each other & party on dudes!

yeah, i prefer sellouts with no artistic vision, also. i think dylan should sing along to pretaped tracks, a la brittney spears.

highway 51 was a song he did on his first album.

what does strawman mean? Makes me think of the Wizard of Oz.

Edit: I don't want to make this a bob dylan debate:

Just because you may not like Dylan's abilities, doesn't mean everyone else feels the same way. He has a very large fan base.

I'm not a big Dylan fan at all, I only know a few of his songs. His voice? Bad, maybe. More like different, not what one would expect from a professional musician. I happen to like it, probably because of this, it's "bad" but it has a quality that makes it favorable to me.

Bad guitar player? I wouldn't say that at all. He's a simple guitar player, he plays simple stuff, but he does it well. He does what he does, and does it well, as the saying goes.

The Straw Man fallacy is committed when a person simply ignores a person's actual position and substitutes a distorted, exaggerated or misrepresented version of that position.

I like the Bill and Jill example, it seems to me that they are both strawmen. Or Jill is a straw woman. Haha! (Not funny, but that's ok)

Thanks for clearing that up Stormy.
