I'm of the school of "ya gotta do what ya gotta do". I take it you don't have anything else lined up? If not, good luck with the job hunt. IT jobs are getting a little easier to find again, but there's still a lot of unemployed IT folks.
Keep your chin up!

Well, I made it through the day. Tendered my resignation, suggested that I not work out a notice as my heart wasn't into it at all. Did the exit interview, said my goodbyes, blah blah blah.
IT jobs are about the same here. I might have an in. I'm being recruited and went to one 6 person interview. Data warehouse stuff, and I worked with the hiring manager in a previous life. The nervous news is that there is a big re-org happening, so hiring is delayed a week or so. It'll probably work out. I need a break. Three straight dot-coms have me tired and stressed out.

I was a shop steward (union rep) in a previous life - well it was over 20 years ago....
Told my boss, at the leaving party, "The good news, for you, is I'm leaving....the bad news, I've got £8000 in my pocket, and I can pick up a gun for £50 in Liverpool....."
I never saw anyone's face change colour as quickly as that.....didn't believe it was possible....and to quote Lynyrd Skynyrd, "Ooh that smell......."

Ray,
I know the feeling. we've gone throught the same thing twice in the last few months where I work and I'm heading back to CT as a result. I was in the IT department for 5 years until last year when we had a buyout and they canned out whole group( I was doing SAP work if your familiar).
I was hoping to get a severance which would have been just over 1 years salar but they offered me another job, which I didn't really want, but the rule was if you got offered a job you couldn't get the severance.
They cut so many people here there aren't enough to go around so I accepted a different job in CT so I could get back where my family is.
Good luck on the job hunting.
Chris

I hope it all works out well :D Sometimes these things work out for the best. years ago my wife draged me kicking and screaming to S.Carolina, But it was a good move for us.( did I mention that I HATE  change  )--the dog
Ironiocally, today I celebrated my 10 anniversary at my current job. I got the crystal clock and the cake. THe company has more than doubled in size in the last 2 years, and my current philosophy is to just keep my head down, stay out of everyones way, and avoid management positions if at all possible, because the bloodletting always seems to be at the manager level here! I too, hate looking for work, and my goal is to be able to reite from here, which, as everyone knows, is almost an impossibilty in this day and age!
Falling in love is like learning to play the guitar; first you learn to follow the rules, then you learn to play with your heart.
Re-entering the workforce 12/19. I know my boss from my last job though, so shouldn't be too bad. (knocking on wood)

Aaaaah, Parker, you're a bum and don't think we don't know.
You're probably a biker as well and are just plain trouble around your neighborhood. We know about YOUR kind. Get a job.
Just kidding, buddy.
Congrats on finding work! :) Now go update someone's drivers and defrag a disk or two.

Wow, this sounds too much like me. I'll be at my job 10 years in January. Ok, I've been with the company 10 years. I've actually had four different positions since being here. Help Desk, LAN Admin, Webmaster, Programmer Analyst. I've been through at least 10 managers, several supervisors, etc. in that time. I now do my work, keep my head low, and wouldn't take a management position here to save my life. We also got bought out but fortunately for us they kept the company as-is except for high level management.
rparker, congrats on the new job!
