I can vouch for the Boss RC-2 loop station. I've been using one for a year now and love it. The thing is solid, well built. You can lay more tracks on top of each other than you'll ever need and it has a number of built-in drum beats for which you can set the tempo. There's a bit of a learning curve at first, but once you get the hang of it it's pretty simple.

Keep in mind that you'll also need separate pedals for effects. Using a built-in effect on an amp for a solo, such as distortion for instance, will affect the sound of the clean rhythm track you laid down beforehand.

Check our YouTube for ideas of what you can do with the thing. Have fun with it; it's well worth the purchase price.
