I actually got it on the way over too some hardcore tool fans house and had to listen to them bitch all night before really getting into it myself. Aaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnd, I like it. I only got it yesterday, but that's my first impression. And no, the thunder doesn't bother me.

PJ, I'm a little dissapointed. I was really hoping for either a passing return to their earlier stuff, or something that I could listen to and tell that they are growing. There are hints of this, but really, it's only in Vedders songs, and he only has like 3. I'm sure the album will grow on me, but I don't think it should have been The self titled album. Oh, well.

Never LOVED them, but they certainly have been the one Seattle band that stood the test of time. I played Vitalogy about 500 times when it first came out.

I've never been a big Peppers fan also. I love Scar Tissue, and Otherside, as well as a couple others, but on the otherside, there are many songs by them that I don't care for.

As for Pearl Jam, I dearly love them. My screen name and avatar can atest to that. I recently got back into Vitalogy in the past few weeks, (I go in spurts of albums), it really is one of the best albums from the 90's.
