lol. Daltrey is playing guitar now, maybe he didn't back then. (Watch him at any of the concerts over the past 3 years, he has a guitar for every song) Either way, the keyboard is in almost all of their great hits (the ones you hear on the radio I mean) and in many of there other songs. Won't Get Fooled Again, Who Are You, Baba O'Rielly are a few of the songs that are big with the synthesizer.

Can anyone tell me why Keith Moon was labled as a "Sloppy drum player" ? I don't even really know what that means, but I've heard it from several people.

I think they had studio keyboard players ( like the stones, and beatles, led zepp. ect) also the ox played keyboards too. They had keyboard players that went on the road with them but were not in the band ( paid session players) I've heard kieth Moon referd to as sloppy, but i think he just had a loose style, I think Moon can hold a candle to any one!! He was one of the best!!! 8) 8) --the dog

Daltrey actually started out as lead guitarist. But then along came Pete...
The rest is history.

I was hoping you'd stop by and clear it up Musen.

So sloppy drumming means what? That you're out of time a lot?

At the time, the band was known as The Detours.

And after they were known as the Detours, they were the High Numbers...

BTW, Pete T is not a bad keyboard player...listen to Who's Next and Quadrophenia for the proof....

He's also a great writer for the keyboard. Very catchy synthesizer tunes.

Did the band write any great hits under the name of The Detours? (Cool name, not as cool as The WHO)

Not as the Detours, Taso, but they did have a minor hit as "The High Numbers"..."I'm the Face"...I have it on an oldies collection called "Hard-up Heroes" which features mostly songs from people who went on to be famous (Case in Point, Joe Cocker - I'll Cry Instead - from 1965....his first hit was 3 years later, with a cover of another Beatles song which sold rather more than the 6....six!!!!...copies "I'll cry instead" sold...and legend has it, his mother bought 4 of those....

Anyway, "I'm the Face" (A face was someone high-up in the mod hierarchy, someone the other mods looked up to...) was reportedly a rip-off of a Slim Harpo song, "I'm a King Bee baby".....

Then they changed their name again, became the Who, released "I can't Explain" and the rest is history....

Doesn't that one also show up on Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy?

Not on the copy of MBB&B I've got - which is a cassette bought in the 70's - but I can't speak for CD re-releases, which usually include bonus tracks...

I also have an import copy of "The Who - Best of the Last 10 years, 65 - 75" on vinyl, I'm pretty sure it's on that....along with other rarities which were'nt on the (original!) MBB&B, but were released as singles, for instance "Dogs" "Call Me Lightning" "Bucket T" and "The Last Time" (yes, the Stones song!!!)

I'm enjoying my holiday, but lord, do I miss my record collection!!!!

My mistake -- I had the wrong title. I meant Odds & Sods. It has "I'm the Face" as well as the Who's cover of "Under My Thumb".

I think "Under my Thumb" was released as a double-A sided single (by The Who) with "The Last Time" around the time of the notorious Rolling Stones drug trial...

You think Townshed still gets high? Just curious as to if they have grown out of that yet.

I know Daltrey said he doesn't smoke weed, and he never did. He was the one who kept everyone on track.
