This verse is played right before the second chorus of "lie la lies..."

I believe it's the first recorded version of it. I believe (and I could be very wrong about it) that Simon came up with this verse so that he could play the song solo without worrying about playing something during the "instrumental verse" section of the original recording. It's also possible that it was part of the original draft of The Boxer and that they opted to go with the instrumental verse for some reason or other. Maybe to simply give the song a different feel at that point.

By the bye, in Live Rhymin' the instrumental section is tacked on as an ending done with South American pipes. And it's very cool!

Hoping someone can solve a bit of music trivia for me. There's a verse that isn't often heard, certainly its not on any of the greatest hits albums etc and i am pretty sure its not on the original.

It goes like this -
C/G C/b Am And the years are rollin' by me - they are rockin' evenly. G G6 G7 G I am older than I once was, and younger than I'll be That's not unusual. C/g c/b Am It isn't strange, G F C After changes upon changes, we are more or less the same. G F/c C C After changes, we are more or less the same. So was this written specifically for the Concert In Central Park? I know they played it at that gig.
