I'd never "upgrade" pickups without first being able to identify what characteristic(s) of the current pickups I wanted to change. To put in new pickups just because they cost more or have a better reputed name is silly. Pickups are extremely simple electromagnetic devices with few variables. Output level, resonant frequency and bandwidth of the resonant peak. That's it.

There's only one pickup variable that relates to price or build quality, and that's microphonicity. Pickup coils that aren't properly potted will pick up sound vibrations and feed back more readily.

I have a nice ibanez with some emg's for my metal playing. I have 2 other guitars, one a Johnson JS-800 strat copy, or a Oscar Schmidt 0E-30. I was wondering which one i should upgrade first. The oscar schmidt already has grover tuners, but i was thinking of getting a nice set of humbuckers for it, just for playing anything clean, or, for the js-800, i could get a nice set of fender single coils. Im kinda leaning towards upgrading the js-800, but the tuners arnt that great on it. Im not quite sure what to do. And for the oe-30, if i could afford them, i would get some gibson 57 classic, and 57 classic plus's for them. And for the strat probably just some fender hot noiseless 3 pickup set, or, if i could afford them, either some fender custom shop texas special pickup set, or fender fat 50's pickup set....please help, im bad at decisions.

-Connor
