Happy B-day Ric and the rest of you ancient almost dead species... You guys should really tell some of us younger folks one more time, what it was like to ride dinsaurs to school.  :P :P

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -- "WOW--What a Ride!"

Well TwistedFingers, it impressed the babes. Need I say more?

Oh, and one other thing. Why do you young punks take the shoes off the horse when you play horseshoes?

It's an interesting item I got, from my wife, called a "Scorpion Stinger" from Master Cutlery. Just a cool display item. About 15" long, solid stainless steel and heavy. Got to be careful handling it, every point on the thing is SHARP! Wouldn't want to drop it on my foot!

My kids also found me something cool, a U.S. Bureau of Ordnance Powder Fuze Ballistic Computer Mk. 1 Mod. 2. Used to set the fuzes of artillery shells to explode on time for various ranges. Not sure whether it was for antiaircraft artillery, or for producing air bursts over surface targets. Don't have a picture of it, but it's a mechanical analog computer with a huge 3D complex curved cam and lots of complicated gear trains.

Happy Birthday as well Ricochet.

This might be as good a time as any to ask and this might even start an entire new topic. Your avatar says Bristol. Any chance you're into NASCAR?

Happy Birthday! I hope the next half century is as great as the first one! (My own odometer flips over to 50 in about 43 days.)

Any chance you're into NASCAR?Bish, I live in Bristol about 3 miles from the racetrack and drag strip. I'm surrounded by NASCAR fans and all sorts of activity, but I'm not really a big fan myself. I try to plan things so I can stay home out of the traffic when the races are on. I think the last census put Bristol, Tennessee's population at about 38,000 (I forget what Bristol, Virginia's is, but it's a little less.) Seems to me like the track holds about 260,000 spectators, and then there are all the vendors, scalpers and various hangers-on. It's a zoo!

I can hear the cars running when I'm sitting here inside typing. I go outside before the races start to watch the F-16s fly by. Had to miss an opportunity once to parade around the track before a race with a bunch of my Harley-riding friends, because I had to work that weekend. (I've since sold the Hog.)

Back in 2000 I won a drag beauty pageant in a nearby Virginia community. Beat out the county sheriff, a bunch of other local politicians and such. It was a hoot. Won a pair of tickets to the August night race. I sold 'em to a former student of mine in Charleston, SC and headed off for a big antique engine show in Portland, Indiana.

I jusht (hic) realised, Ric, your birthdays the same day as my youngest grandson...

here's a pic....

That's my youngest daughter holding him (his auntie Kayleigh, named after the Marillion song) - the pic was taken on St Patricks day, his dad is from County Mayo...

has the party finished yet?

:D :D :D
