When I was younger, I played both rugby and football (soccer, to the US contingent), although most of youthful energy was spent down caves.

rounders - a game played by young girls in junior school. Exported to the US, where it became baseball, with men dressed in children's pyjamas.

Netball - a game played by slightly older girls. Exported to the US, where it's called basketball.

Rugby - a man's game, usually played under appalling weather conditions. Exported to the US, where it became (for some unfathomable reason) football, with the men dressed in huge, great padded suits and motor cycle helmets (these suits were later to be re-exported to the UK as costumes for "It's a Knockout").
