I did the same for my kids. :D After a bit last night, I went downstairs and starting strumming and singing "Down In The Valley" (D and A7). It didn't take three verses for my wife to enter into a coma. It was priceless. She was deep asleep before I got to "...the Birmingham Jail..." I have a very clear memory of listening to the radio with a cousin of mine in York, PA. This is before The Beatles. Franky Vali and the Four Seasons, The Beach Boys, The Righteous Brothers, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Elvis, ect. Great stuff.

But the song that actually turned my head and make me go "wow!" was "something new from the band" Steppenwolf: "Magic Carpet Ride."

Ok, here's the scene....My parents had a 1 bedroom apartment that had a total of 3 rooms and and a loo. I'm 3 years old. I was standing in the bedroom next to the record player. Not knowing what the heck I was looking at, I started it and jumped on top of my bed which was conveniently next to my parent's bed and made for some exciting acrobatics. So there I am in a cowboy hat, on top of the bed waiting, not knowing what was about to happen as a result of hitting the switch on that machine.
