Some weeks ago I played an Amistar Squareneck Tricone similar to Randy Kohrs one, but with a maple neck and without the pickups and the nice engravings. Sounded really good, but I have to admit, that I don't have much experience with tricones. In fact, it was the first one I ever played. But I liked it very much.
I also wanted to play a Johnson SN Tricone that day, but it was already sold.
My next guitar will be an Amistar SN Tricone with that great looking vintage finish...

Volker

BTW: The price was 1700€ (ca.2251$,1823$ if you discount 19% tax)

I like the nice fat, hand filling neck of my Johnson as well.

Bear in mind, though, that Johnsons were Amistars through 2001. They were also expensive, as Amistars still are. When AXL started building them in China and selling them in early 2002, the price fell by half. So did the quality, but I was happy to make that tradeoff and do my own upgrades on my early Chinese Johnson Tricone. It needed them. They've gotten much better over the years, even as the price has come down further.
