This is truly a rough draft. Hopefully I'll get the time to add in some banjo and/or dobro to the mix.

By the bye, I've also posted up a song from the first year of SSG called Saturn's Moons. The assignment was to use all the "four basic elements" (earth, air, fire and water) in a song lyric. There's obviously been some editing since then, but I'm still very happy with this one.

Like A Promise To Momma, this recording is still a work in progress.

It was Kenny Rogers or Johnny Cash that came to mind for me. It's really interesting isn't it that when people are really tired, their creative side kicks in. I do like your song.

I think this is great: She said "Son you've got to promise
And keep that promise well.
And when you've kept your promise
You must promise not to tell." especially the last line, it did make me smile.

I have been trying to cut down in the amount of words that I use in every song I write , Maybe from now on I will post what I have writtten in my pad and see what respnose I get ..

I loved this, I'm with Vic on the MP3! Can't wait! :) I enjoy songs that tell a story in this manner, a chorus that changes a little bit as the story goes. And the story is told well. Nice flow, nice meter, nice rythm, nice rhymes.

Great job! So... bump when the mp3 is ready, please?

This is great - like John, I thought "The Band" at first but on second reading, it reminds me more of the way Kenny Rodgers tells a story in a song - like "Coward of the County" or "The Gambler" - and both of those were made into TV movies!!!

I love the way you left it open at the end - I know what's in the box, but I'm not telling!!!

There's only one tiny thing - and it is REALLY trivial - that I have a problem with, and that's the title. Now that's a British thing - I know "Mom" and "Momma" are perfectly acceptable in America, but to a Brit, they come across as, well, a bit soppy, a bit baby-ish even...but like I said, that's just a British thing - we tend to use "Mummy" as very small children, and then "Mum" above the age of about 7 or so....hardly worth mentioning really, was it?

This is one song I'd LOVE to hear as an MP3....

Oh and can someone explain "frailed" as in "frailed banjo" please? Obviously it's a style of playing, but as I know nothing about Banjo playing.....?

Interesting song. It reminds me somewhat of
The Band. As far as the exrta words here and there
I always find that when I write lyrics without music
I always end up doing some editing when the music
is added.
