For me, the humorous verses work best; "For example, prenuptial means what was before the war" is probably the best line of the song.

Nick has a point (doesn't he always!) with "show me, don't tell me" - if you can paint a picture with your lyrics, the listener wil be drawn in. Maybe you should ask yourself, "what's my target audience? who am I pitching this song to?" then when you've got that straight, you can tailor the lyics to that audience.

As you say, there's potential there - but what do words mean to YOU? Are they a means to have a little goofy fun, or to get a serious point across, or both?

:D :D :D

Vic

It is interesting. Have you taken a second look at this and revised it? I think you need either more consistency or less.

You've got three verses that start:

Words can
or
Words are

Two that mention prefix, and the rest are random.

It reads like a collection of couplets rather than a song. You have some good lines and rhymes in there, but they're lost without a consistent structure. I mean one thing a song does is generate familiarity and expectation for the listener. I'm not getting that here.

It is a good start.

Two more things, I'm sure you've heard it said around here, "Show don't tell". A lyric should paint an emotional connecting picture for the listener. Give them a mental image they can connect to. So for this verse line two can be a quote of you speaking:

Words can be used to feed you
"Dominos, can I get a large pizza?"
Lots are needed to paint a picture
like Leonardo's Mona Lisa

Because just about everyone has ordered a pizza and can connect to the image.

Then I'd change the Mona Lisa line. How many words is a picture worth? Isn't it a thousand? Yep, googling it reveals "A picture is worth a thousand words"

Words can be used to feed you
"Dominos, can I get a large pizza?"
You need a thousand to paint a picture
like Leonardo's Mona Lisa

just my 2 cents
