This week I'd like to revisit a topic that Bob Mothers first introduced to the SSG quite a while ago - the idea is to write a song with a first-person narrator who has what one would call a "solitary" job, meaning one that has little to no contact with others. Jimmy Webb's "Wichita Lineman" would be a good example. Long distance truckers would certainly be another obvious choice.

The key to this, though, is to not spend the song descibing the job but rather the workings of the mind of the narrator.
