Hello to all

When you think about it (and it doesn't matter whether you think it's good, bad, sad, etc.,), the many different worlds of Christmas are fascinating. You have the biblical and the other "legendary tales" and also the "marketable," if you will. And each has its own set of characters, whether it be shepherds or elves or angels or Norse gods (Frigga, Balder and the mistletoe, for instance) or reindeer or wise men (who were obviously not wise enough to ask for directions and needed celestial GPS assistance) or even Christmas spiders.

What's even more fascinating is how each of these different worlds is constantly being added to by writers, songwriters, and other artists. You won't find the "Little Drummer Boy" in any biblical reference, but every year he's there doing his little pa rum pum pa pumming for all to hear.

Even Rudolph and Frosty (who are certainly old school by now) began life as new additions to older Christmas traditions (Rudolph was the main character of a 1939 coloring book for Montgomery Ward, if you can imagine!).

So this week you get to add to the ever-growing list of Christmas characters. Or you can simply expand on already existing characters. No one mentions any of Santa's children (Chris, Pili, Alva, Helga, Jingjing, Leopold, Alika, Sanity, Li Ming, Vera, and Joss) after all. And certainly Donner could use a turn in the spotlight. Or even Olive, the most neglected reindeer of all...

As always, I look forward to reading and to listening to what you come up with.

Peace
