I think he never really,
came back from Viet Nam,
Uncle Dean had a demon,
it lived inside his head,
called him Charlie, when he spoke of it at all,
he's every bit as dead
as every person named on that black wall.

I got it as a nice and steady slightly country/Steve Earle sound.

Good piece of writing - can't see what you're not happy with, there's a few word changes that'll come when you get it paired with a tune but certainly a keeper.

Good stuff and interesting take on the assignment.

Bob :)

no worries, I can't either. At least not one worth mentioning. yet.
i like the fact that you are writting about a person the servived nam, and not someone that died, since you are writting about the wall.
hmmm.... let me know how you see the story when you're wide awake.
i did find one little possible mistake. Uncle Dean has a demon
it hunts him every night,
sometimes he wakes up screamin' is the word 'hunts' correct here or did you mean to use the word 'haunts'?
nope. I meant 'hunts'. I know I used 'haunted' in the first verse, but in the choruses I wanted 'hunts'. As in -- always looking over your shoulder, always watching your back, always sleeping with one eye open, always... etc

This song was mostly a struggle. It's still not quite where I want it to be. The language is sloppy in places, as you pointed out. But I did get something done for the exercise, which is about the best I could hope for this week. I might keep on this one, though. If I ever get it down the way it is in my mind, it'll be good.

-- Scratch 8)
