I was only able to use the wordplay "cash our checks and balances" in one verse in this song. Â For those unfamiliar with American government, the system of checks and balances between the three branches of government, Executive, Legislative, and Judicial, is what is supposed to (and generally does) protect the American nation from falling prey to any elite group or individual. Â The reference to arrows and sheaves alludes to the symbol of the United States, which is a bald eagle clutching arrows in one tallon, and sheaves of wheat in the other, symbolizing, I think, strength and prosperity.

Kind of a Jackson Browne type melody.

This Moment of Peace
Copyright ©2003 Martin Hillman

Driving down the highway
I hear the wind sing in the telephone wires
So far away from the crackling fires
Where the mothers scream
And the bullets stream

Chorus:
And this moment of peace is paid for
With the blood of an innocent child

We cash our checks and balances
When we allow ourselves to be deceived
By a government whose information
Is purchased from killers and thieves
Bundled with arrows and sheaves

Chorus:
And all this deception is paid for
With the blood of an innocent child

Listen to the six o'clock news
That actress had another face lift, I think that's ten* Â
Oh, and by the way 50 people died
When a suicide bomber fell
On his one way trip to Hell

Chorus:
And his eternal peace is paid for
With the blood of an innocent child

Bridge:
We take for granted the running water
With which we wash our hands
Of the blood of an innocent child
And the mullah blinded by hatred
Can't see <s>evil when he writes it</s> the evil he writes
With the blood of an innocent child

Tell me what's the cost
Of those blood soaked stocks and bonds
Or those 70 virgins in paradise
One more oil drenched dollar bill
One more child to kill (this line doesn't work. Â I'm still thinkin' on it.)

Chorus:
In the end its <s>all</s> bought and paid for
With the blood of an innocent child
Yes this moment of peace is paid for
With the blood of an innocent child

*(this line to be spoken quite rapidly to fit meter)
