Can mankind still imagine? I can still see it sung!

Well, most newspapers and television news is so depressing since most of the focus is negative. I usually don't read the headline newspaper articles anymore; I'd rather find the positive articles or stories. Well, here's my take on the monday morning newspaper:

"Old Newspaper Blues"

Early monday morning, walk down the corner newsstand
Bought me a paper from the friendly newspaper man
Hand me my guitar, I've got those old newspaper blues

Glancing at the paper, just looking at headlines
Wondering what's the matter with the state of man
Hand me my guitar, I've got those old newspaper blues

Troubles just a state of mind! Devil's still alive and well
The world full of problems, you'd think we'd solved by now
Hand me my guitar, I've got those old newspaper blues

Bombs explode on crowded streets, religious war's we're told
People hating people just because of clothes
Hand me my guitar, I've got those old newspaper blues

John Lennon wrote "Imagine", killed by another man's gun
Can mankind still imagine? I can still see it sung!
Hand me my guitar, I've got those old newspaper blues.

I've tried to set the song to something like Jodie Messina's "Even God must get the Blue's" and also like the song set to something like John Prine's "Unwed Mothers". As always, any comments, suggestions, ideas, or rewrites are welcome.
