I like what you've done here but there is one change that I would like to see, just my personal opinion of course, and that is this:

It started out being about a band that I liked who had released an awesome independent debut, then followed it up with a commercial EP that was pretty derivative and bland. But I soon realised that a song about a band wasn't nearly as engaging as a song about a failed relationship, so it morphed over time.

I've wrestled with this song a lot, so I though some of you may enjoy to see the lines considered and rejected during the song's evolution (https://www.guitarnoise.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=32460).
