Hey guys, another virgin here too! I have been using this site since november now for my songwriting and learning to play my guitar! Songwriting is a really important way for me to get things of my chest, and all of my lyrics come from the heart. I am 16 and i have no ambitions in life to become an Artist (I cant sing for starters!) but by other people's admission i am a "fantastic lyricist". Before i state what i am using for this weeks assignment, i would just like to ask this. OK, suppose i am a "fantastic lyricist", there is nothing i would like better than to write lyrics along with music. I am no good composer, and can't find simple instrumental demo's anywhere to put my lyrics too, or write lyrics for. Does any1 have any ideas? Please email me at mattutaylor@aol.com with any ideas whatsoever! I would truely appreciate it but RE: the email, SSG so i can avoid opening spam! Thanks

This Weeks Assignment:

My first Title is a song which i wrote which also inspired me to look more deeply into progressing with my songwriting and is Called "Amie's Song". When i look at a CD i instantly look for the songs which i think are going to be slower and more meaningful (such as Staind's Outside, or Creeds With arms wide open) so i think to myself, what are the listeners looking for? Obviously i cant assume what all listeners are looking for but at present i write these songs for ME!!!!

My second song is called "Drown". This is a song about there being enough love from me for that person to be able to ... well basically drown in it!

Third title - "I Know it can be hard but my feelings never change" This is another one of what my friends label "matts songs"

Final Title - "Young Love" - Bit of a life story this one but oh well! Basically me and my girlfriend have been together for 3 years and this is what people brand what we feel for one another. But the important thing with this is the word love. I am no preacher, but we are young and we are in love, so why should title's such as this be looked upon in a bad way? (ie. puppy love)

Many thanks to all you guys at Guitarnoise.com for really helping me with my stuff

Have a look at them and see if you can modify the poem to be more of a song withoin the parameters Nick describes. There's also an FAQ post below this post on the SSG Board which you may find informative. As for off topic posting we do tend to keep this board for specific weekly assignments which you are more than welcome to join.

Bob

1st timer here- Here's an old poem I just found (haven't seen it in 2 years!)- but inspired by the assignment and new knowledge of this forum, I've decided to name and revise this poem. The new name and unrevised poem. If it's okay, I'd like to update whoever is reading with my revisions. Suggestions/critiques/advise would be awesome; preferably emailed to erin_deann@yahoo.com but replied here would be fine too.
Here goes~

Subconsious Mental Masochism

Enter my dominion
Cry and shed those tears
Into my thousand oceans.
Wither along with the rest of them
And die.
Enter my dominion
Let the confusion manifest
In your feeble little heart.
Let it pump into your veins
And spread.
Enter my dominion
But know now this one warning:
Pain here is not a state of mind
It's a lifestyle.
Enter my dominion
But don't say I didn't warn you.

Again, comments would be great. Also, if there are any specific posting rules concerning off-topics, etc. I'd really like to take a look at them so I'll know whether or not to extend my posts.

Thanks~
Erin

It's arguably the most important part of the song. It gives the listener an idea of what to expect. It gives your adoring fans a way to ask for your latest at the local CD store. The title is often overlooked even though it can make or break a song. No lie, "Midnight Train to Georgia" was originally "Midnight Plane to Houston." Which title evokes the warmer feelings?

This week's assignment is to come up with three or four killer song titles. No songs necessary, for the moment, and that's a hint of the wickedness to come!

If you begin experiencing songwriting withdrawal, now would be a good time to break out one of your early songs and see if all the exercise is doing any good.

Good Writing

Bob
