Just those last two words have 7 sylables together and there were no words at all in my rhyming dictionary for "eventual" so I just had to go with approximates and fairly wordy lines. But it works now.

-Marv

If I told you specifics I'd have to kill you. But it doesn't envolve much sleep. And i think the only reason my turn around is so fast on these is that I always go with the first idea I get when i read the assignment and refuse to let myself give it up no matter how hard it is after I start. When "Everything's Eventual" started to beat me up I almost moved to Patrick Suskind's "Perfume" becasue it would have been easier. But then I'd be without this song which I really really love. This is the first time I've gone to sleep between reading the topic and writing the song though. I kinda jumped awake a few hours later with this story in my head. Which was pretty much just the line "there in the void our eyes will meet". I wrote the whole thing with that line in mind as my closer. Anyway. There's a little bit of my technique.. I think.

-Marv

OK... Here goes. Â I don't know if I can do this justice, but I'll just try and tell you what I like about this one.

I absolutely love the story. Â I like the determination, the uncompromising pursuit for the ideal. Â The guy spends his entire life seeking this pinnacle of feminine splendor, whom, for all we know, isn't even real. Â It's a Quixotic quest, which is one of my favorite kinds of stories.

The chorus. Â It's just fantastic. Â At first, I didn't think "trivial" was the best word that could be used there. Â It seemed somehow inaccurate. Â But I tried A LOT of other words there, and none of them worked. Â The meter, the rhyme, and the ideas expressed in the chorus are all woven together so well, that adding or taking anything from it just messes it up.

Fourth verse. Â I didn't like "hopeless hope" (it's recursive). Â But again, like "trivial" I tried to fit anything else in there, and no luck. Â I tried - empty, forlorn, mournful, and a bunch of others. Â Hopeless just somehow fits. Â It shouldn't, but it does.

The bridge crowns the piece, and the whole thing just flows beautifully. Â I hope you record this one.

Now if you could just share with the rest of the class how you get stuff of this caliber posted mere hours after the assignment...

-- Scratch
