I wrote the song about an asshole from my school that graduated last year. We came in conflict with each other numerous times, and we gave each other black eyes more times than I can count. Thing is, most people in school disliked/hated this guy, but they were all too worried about what might happen to their own image if they went against him, since he was considered "popular". (Perfect for this week's theme, lol) I was pretty much the only person who wouldn't put up with his shit. Hence the lines:

Everybody kneels
Except for me

Also, after thinking about the situation one day, I realized that in some fucked up way I could see myself in this guy. The guy is a part (although very small) of who I am. As if in a sense I created him, as weird as that may sound. This is why I say "My average joe".

Everybody knows
My average joe

Anyway, just wanted to clear up anything you didn't understand.
Thank you for the input

Fruscian

Hi Fruscian,

I like a lot about this song, but I think I don't quite get it.

The backup vocals look like they would work really well, I like the image of an everyday guy going through life just being one of the crowd, which is kind of what I get out of the opening verses, but in the chorus, where you call him "My average joe", I'm not sure what you mean there, and I'm not sure why everyone's kneeling. It takes so long for me to outline what I don't like, that it looks like it outweighs what I do like, and that's not the case. I really like the song. Just unsure about those two parts.

-- Scratch

I don't know if the lyrics to this song really fit in to the whole Pop scene, as they are not your "boy meets girl" kind of lyrics. However, the music I've written for the lyrics is quite "pop", so I went ahead and posted the song. It's upbeat as well.
Here goes...the stuff in the parenthesis is the backup vocals...

Verse 1
(and) He goes down (and)
(and) He walks around (and)
He demands everything
But he gets nothing

(and) He walks on the bus (and)
(and) He makes a fuss (and)
And then he bites off more (than)
Than he can muster

Chorus
Everybody knows
My average joe
Everybody kneels
Except for me

Everybody sings along
Anybody nods along
Everybody sings his song
Except for me

Verse 2
He likes to quote his Daddy
He wants to be somebody
He isn't taught by no one (grammatical error made on purpose)
Yet he means nothing

He judges without asking
Hears the truth without reacting
Confronts his life with a sly remark
Yet he means nothing

He goes around and spends his money
He's real cool; he thinks he's funny
And he plays with my dignity
'Cause he is nothing

Chorus
