Hmmm... let me just point out very quickly, that I don't think it's one of your "weaker" songs either, nor your strongest. And I've no doubt whatsoever that the way you have it in your head it works very well. I'm sure it's one of those songs that when I read it I think but when I hear it, I'd think I always try to pick apart your stuff, and your stuff is always hard to pick apart.

-- Scratch 8)

Then where are all the fireworks the poets write about?
And why are all the stars still in the sky?
All I see is something different in your eyes.
Those movie stars are wrong but that's alright
I'm quite content but if you still need a sign... (that is basically the whole song, isn't it? I mean it sums it up nicely)
While all the world crumbles around us
I've heard reckless love's not forever
But these mortal bodies arent either
They'll think us mad and call us both fools
this is excellent:) only thing I stumble about is 'both'...does this work with the music? to me it would sound better without 'both' but it's your decision;))

great work as always:)
best wishes,
bluenightangel

Hey Marv,

Good to see you back, man! I'm not sure what to make of this one. It's good, but I think it's not your best. Then again, you've submitted other songs that I've had that sentiment about, then when I hear them, they're terrific. So who knows? There are only two things here that give me pause.

1. The second chorus is longer than the first chorus, and I wonder how it might work if you moved "Strike up the Band" to right after "The world crumbles around us", then made those last 4 lines kind of a bridge, or an outro?

2. These lines:
If this is love then I'll let it be if you'll just let it be
A simple thing meant for only you and me

They seem to run together. And I love the "...I'll let it be if you'll just let it be a simple thing..." idea. It's really good. But it seems to me that it'd be awkward to sing. But like I said, in all probability, it'd be one of those things that when I heard it, it would be as natural as day and night.

I absolutely love the "Love-quietly-taking-hold-without-all-the-hollywood-fanfare" theme that you have going on here, as well as the narrators willingness to provide the fanfare should the object of his love desire it. Very nice approach to the assignment.

It's always a pleasure to see what you're going to come up with. I know you've had a pretty busy few weeks. Again, it's great to see you back around.

-- Scratch 8)
