He's got no idea what that ending was. Obviously its got the more mundane meaning that he can't remember going there. I didnt mean to convey that he couldnt remember the original event.

Dhodge.

That change sems to work... It doesn't do much for me to change it though. Just a preference. I think the "bought" bothers me. I'm not sure. I'll mull it over. As for music.. I've got none just yet. ust the melody in my head and its almost certain my band wont be playing this one. We don't do country... I might work it up for myself in case I ever have an occasion to play it. I've got some other country tunes laying around as well.

But really... I don't think I like this song anymore... haha... I'm very tempted to have a go at somethng else entirely this week. Maybe something appealing to a global audience and therefore more appropriate for the board. This one you kinda get as an American... but... may not mean anything anywhere else in the world.

-marv

That's in their charter. They refused to join the United States without having the ability to leave should they have thought that joining was a mistake.

But enough of that sort of thing, otherwise this thread could get sidetracked in a big hurry...

Marv, I really liked the whole mood of this piece. The second verse:

Woke on the River Walk near the historic district
My wallet was gone but somehow I didn't miss it
I couldnt remember where I'd been or what I'd done
All that i knew was that you were gone

makes a wonderfully smooth transition (especially that second line!), but I'd like to suggest a few changes simply to make it more active, particularly in the third line:

Woke on the River Walk near the historic district
My wallet was gone but somehow I didn't miss it
I couldnt remember what I'd bought seen said or done
All that I knew was that you were gone

As always, a great read from you. Do you have this set to music already? Will it be played at your band's next show?

Peace

slight digression, -- The Alamo was originally a church, which was then fortified and used as a fort during the battle. And the Texans were in fact vastly outnumbered, but held their ground for 13 days. It was truly an act of incredible valor.

Marv,

I like the idea you've got here. I'm stumbling over the meter a bit, but I'm sure you're making it work. The only petty thing I'd change is to lose the 'Cause from the last line of the chorus. See, that the character can't remember the Alamo, is an indication of how messed up his memory of anything is. So not remembering the Alamo isn't a reason he doesn't know, only a gauge of degree. I''d put another syllable in there, just not "'cause".

-- Scratch 8)

For those not versed in American... specifically Texas... history.. "Remember the Alamo" was a battle cry during the Texas revolution against Mexico. The Alamo was a fort at which a handful of Texan fighters (including several prominent figures in American history) stood their ground and were masacred by a Mexican force that far outnumbered them. During the rest of the revolution Texans charged under the battle cry "Remember the Alamo". The fort itself still stands in San Antonio, Texas and is a popular tourist spot.

I felt it might make a good metaphor for a tragic loss.

Another one of mine I'd call "a darker shade of country".

"Remember the Alamo"

We came to San Antonio for our honeymoon
And sweet darlin' I've never been more in love with you
We saw the sights, we had good times, but too much wine
Erased the whole d*mned day from my mind

Woke on the River Walk near the historic district
My wallet was gone but somehow I didn't miss it
I couldnt remember where I'd been or what i'd done
All that i knew was that you were gone

(chorus)
And i can't remember the Alamo.
And I couldn't tell you where i got this broken nose
Did I last the night?
Or did I go down without a fight?
I don't know
Cause I can't remember the Alamo

I made it to our motel room several hours later
But instead of you I found this fella sleeping there
And if I'm right, then that black eye of his is mine
Along with the wallet at his side.

He woke to questions with his own pistol to his head
"I found you alone.
