It reads well :mrgreen: Lots of details. One idea you might squeeze in the end was the singer saying....."those that left never did find gold, cause they didn't know where to look....but I found/find gold in the friendships/people in this small town everywhere I go."

paint a purely descriptive picture focusing on objects, specific objects, instead of people I'M GOING HOME

I grew up on a mountain top
now it seems more like a hill
blanketed by a heavy smoke
from wood fires heating copper pot stills

people huddled in wood houses
trying their best to keep warm
it was small for even a small town
not much had been transformed

someone said there was gold up there
they looked but none was ever found
that’s when most people came & left
those that remained started this town

but it’s home and that’s where I’m going
once there, that’s where I’m going to stay
going home, I’ve been waiting for this journey
once home, I’ll never go away

dirty alley ways and broken street lights
a cement park where once grass grew
a couple of bars, an old café
nothings changed from what I knew

a traffic light but all it did was blink
no stopping in this one light town
a parking lot that’s always empty
except for an occasional car that’s broke down

there’s only one church and it’s always open
a cemetery next door with freshly dug ground
a tent erected, standing empty
waiting for the mourners to come around

it’s home, that’s where I’m going
Once there, that’s where I’m going to stay
soon a stone will be erected
and I couldn’t care less what it’s gonna say
