I wasn't thinking of "The Book Thief" this time :wink: (the credit rather goes to kathy's "piano through the ceiling" :wink: )
.. and, Vic, I seem to remember that week 27 was such a week :lol:

I'm glad you didn't mention recordings, Trev :D (seeing that I sort of recorded something the week before last, I am even more uninspired now :wink: ) - if you'd like to fingerpick here, feel welcome to do so :D

Once again you bring so much imagery and poetic ness <--- is that a word if not It should be :)

The Neighbours line is a great line . I really like that whole verse {Very clever } well done

I envisage finger picking through out this piece ...
I won't mention recordings ...
I don't like to record myself that much any more as my singing is poop ...

Hmmm - kind of reminded me of "The Book Thief" again, and also Coleridge's "Ryme Of The Ancient Mariner" in places. It is a bit rambling, yes - it could be tightened up in a few places. But as usual, all the imagery we've come to expect is there - all I have to do now is decipher the meaning!

This has been the only time I can ever remember when there's only been one new song in the whole week.....good job you posted something, Anne!

Everyone else must be on holiday - apart from me, and I think my brain cell's gone away for a week or two...though I'm still here.....sort of......in spirit anyway.....

Hi. I think there might be a bit of week 29 in there, too :wink: Here goes:

seaward wind

the traffic lights are stuck on amber
a neighbour's asleep on the steering wheel
and the window pane is but an empty frame
for the veteran sailor with the sunken cheeks and sore throat
he wanders through the terraced house in the manner of a ghost
too deadbeat to pull a face at the comrades of old
.
his hands shake as he measures the tea leaves
and places another cup on the table
the broken one has been there since april
â€œa reminderâ€ he said when sarah asked
now he passes by his grandson
numb in front of the television set
a food war, an old scar, a cartoon - they just race past
his head heavy with cardboard boxes
he is sick of moving

while the old ghost
drags his cold limbs
up the staircase
.
on the second floor, with clouds' shadows
cast on her face, the baby's chuckling in its sleep
but he does not hear, he is up in the attic now
where dust is a map of the places he's been to
in his years as a pirate, the golden days that were
as imperfect, but he never stood as still to study
the smears in the paintings or the run in the days' seams
he is staring at the notes from a piano bench

amber is weaving through the skyline
in a living room a sleeper comes back to life
to the faltering notes that echo like lost birds through the house
he opens the windows to let them out
where a south wind points â€˜em seaward

It's rambling on a bit and clumsy in some places... also, I don't think the piano is recognizable as the "thing"... well... anyhow, I hope you find something in it you like :D
